About Us

Carol has been showing and breeding Arabian horses since 1979. She is an accomplished National Champion competitor in both Canada and the U.S. in the saddleseat English Pleasure division. Her appreciation of beauty, type, attitude and trainability of the Arabian horse are instrumental to the breeding, overall husbandry and presentation of the American Cocker Spaniel. An exceptionally bred, happy, healthy, well turned out individual is paramount to the current and future success of Pied D’or.

The combination of Gazon/Darkehaven lineage is the foundation for Pied D’or. Carol’s beautiful, talented and beloved WILLIE (AMCh/CANCh Gazon n Chitina’s Sugar Daddy) was her introduction to the world of owning, breeding and showing this fabulous breed of dog. Willie produced numerous offspring that have gone on to earn both Canadian and American championship titles. LOLA (AMCh/CANCh Gazon n Pied D’or Crazy For You) was just as heavily campaigned in the show ring, earning title after title, and has been a blast to show. The breeding of Willie and Lola produced Stella (AMCh/CANCh Pied D’or Sweet City Woman) who filled the ring with attitude and movement and was granted her Canadian Championship as well as her Grand Championship in the U.S. with invitations to the Eukanuba Championship Dog Show.

Pied D’or is home to both Canadian and American Champions. Carol’s 2010 breeding and ownership of three out of a litter of six from Winelight Potter x Gazon Pied D’or Crazy For You, has taken her on the campaign trail from Canada to the U.S. Midwest, Arizona, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, South Carolina and Missouri. The show ring success of crowning all three puppies with American Grand Championships has been a breeder’s dream come true. Carol was top breeder in 2011 in the U.S. as well as owning the top producing bitch (Lola) for 2011.

Our Arabian Horse Journey

Carol has loved all breeds of horses as long as she can remember but her dream of owning an Arabian stood steadfast until it became a reality in 1979 when she bought her first Half-Arabian chestnut gelding “Gratias”. The stories of trail riding Gratias in Alberta, Canada are endless and memorable. The transition from Gratias into the Arabian horse show world began with the purchase of a beautiful purebred grey gelding, Prime Candidate, who was shown extensively and successfully in the English Pleasure division throughout Canada with Carol in the irons. Prime Candidate was eventually sold and the history and Carol’s involvement within the Arabian horse industry was beginning to be written with the ongoing acquisitions and sales of 17 U.S. and Canadian Regional and National Champion show horses.

Too many to individually mention, the talented and show stopping Half-Arabian chestnut mare named Key of Hope was purchased in 1989 at the world renowned Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show, it was as we say, “the beginning without an end”! Key of Hope was Carol’s introduction to the infamous and extremely talented trainer Robert “Bob” Battaglia. Carol’s opportunity to train under and show with Bob Battaglia was a Saddleseat rider’s dream come true. Carol and Key of Hope were put on the map with the U.S. campaigning of Key of Hope in the English Pleasure division as well as Pleasure Driving with Bob Battaglia garnering numerous Regional and National wins. Key of Hope came home to Canada and continued her career with Carol under the expertise of trainer Michael Whelihan. Michael’s success showing Key of Hope in Pleasure Driving and Park in both Canada and the United States earning a prestigious U.S. National Top Ten in the Half-Arabian Park horse division. Key of Hope’s sale to buyers in Minnesota, led Carol to the majestic and heart grabbing “Sugar Loaf” who was acquired in Columbus, Ohio and began a show career with Carol in the Country English Pleasure division, once again with trainer Bob Battaglia. Sugar Loaf was successfully shown in the U.S. and Canada winning the crown of Canadian National Reserve Champion in Country English Pleasure with Carol. This was the icing on the cake for Carol and Sugar Loaf in Carol’s home country of Canada. Sugar Loaf enjoyed the remainder of her life in the pasture taking care of her offspring.

From the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show in 1999, came the addition of an extremely talented purebred Chestnut gelding “AA Show Biz” who Carol showed successfully in the Country Pleasure Amateur division until his sale in 2000 to renowned trainer and judge Larry Lewis. The wins kept coming with the purchase of the incredible TAF Myberry Bey who not only stole Carol’s heart with her beauty and talent but was an undefeated National Champion in both the U.S. and Canada in the Halter and Pleasure Driving divisions with both Bob Battaglia and Michael Whelihan. Carol and TAF Myberry Bey earned numerous Regional and National Championships and was later sold to the well respected and revered breeder Sandra Ledbetter of the famed Live Oak Arabians. RB Secret Toi, an incredible black Half-Arabian gelding was added to the show string roster following in Myberry’s footsteps competing in the English Pleasure division in Junior Horse with trainer Michael Whelihan bringing Carol along to accomplish a Canadian National Reserve Championship in the Amateur Division. RB Secret Toi was sold to buyers in California who continued his show career in the Amateur English Pleasure division.

In 2010, the fun and talented Half-Arabian grey mare Heritage Bey Kat was purchased through Bob Battaglia from long time breeder Ward Weaver of Ohio. Carol and Kat began a very successful career, once again under the expertise of Bob Battaglia, in the Country English Pleasure division winning a Scottsdale Top Ten, two Regional Championships and several Class A championships. Kat was greatly admired by many but stole the heart of a junior rider from Nebraska who bought her and continues her show career to this day.
